Fabric is the new leather!

Hey my fellow bloggers, sorry I haven’t blogged sooner – my bad! Recently, I have been to the Interiors UK 2013 exhibition at Birmingham NEC. I was amazed at the turn out, and the furniture is out of this world. I did however notice one thing, not only if fabric the new black, but fabric is the new leather – or so it seems! Fabric beds were everywhere, and we love them.

Fabric beds are available in many different colours. Birlea Furniture has introduced an amazing range of fabric beds, such as the Birlea Brooklyn fabric bed which is available in chocolate brown, grey or wheat. The thing we like most about the Birlea Brooklyn Collection is that it is also available as an ottoman storage bed, which is perfect for any room lacking in storage. Currently I have only seen these particular beds available from leading bed stores such as Bed Centre UK and Bed SOS, but we’re sure other retailers will soon sharp jump on the fabric bed band wagon.

Other manufacturer’s, such as Limelight Beds, have introduced some very modern fabric beds. Our favourite is most definitely the Limelight Eclipse fabric bed in plum finish. This Limelight Jupiter bed is another favourite of ours, with its beige upholstered fabric finish and easy lift up action for the internal storage facility.

Time Living is another fine example of a fantastic manufacturer of fabric beds. Their range of Hamburg fabric beds are desirable, and come in a choice of pebble grey fabric or cocoa brown fabric finish.

Here at Home Desirable, we just love the fact that contemporary fabric beds are becoming the latest must have piece of bedroom furniture.

Headboard Dilemma: Officially sorted!

Remember that ivory faux suede headboard we bought? Well, as I mentioned previously, when it arrived it was not ivory in colour and it certainly wasn’t faux suede. Basically, it just had to go!

We have purchased many products from Bed SOS in the past, so we thought we would search for a 5ft cream headboard from Bed SOS. We were not disappointed! We opted for the 5ft king size Cambridge headboard, in cream faux leather finish. This headboard came with free next day delivery, or alternatively we could of opted for a specific delivery date if we wished. Bed SOS also deliver on a Saturday at an additional cost of £20.00, but that wasn’t necessary.

Anyways, when the headboard arrived, we were very impressed! The Cambridge 5ft cream headboard is manufactured to a very high standard and comes from the Sleepy Valley Beds Collection. Doesn’t it look beautiful!?

When we unboxed the headboard, it was covered in a white fibre protection bag, which acted like a dust sheet and also offered slight protection against any damage whilst in transit – even Angel from itsapussycatslife was impressed!

The headboard was packaged securely, and came complete with easy to attach wooden headboard fixing struts.

The struts are of far better quality than the ones included with our previous headboard. They are thicker, better finish/ quality and far more sturdy.  The struts were also extremely easy to attach.

The pack included x6 bolts and x6 washer rings, three for each strut, as well as the appropriate allen key.

The headboard took around ten minutes to assemble, and fixed to our 5ft divan king size bed without any problem. Over all, we are extremely happy with the colour, style, quality and over all finish of our new headboard.

What do you think?  Is anyone else as impressed as us with the Sleepy Valley Cambridge headboard?  Don’t forget to like, comment and share!

Review: Birlea Furniture

Hey guys, well it’s been a while since our Birlea furniture arrived. Remember that teal and white guest room? Well, we’ve had Jess stay around (Jess is our friends 6yr old daughter) and Jess has been telling us what she does and doesn’t like about the furniture.

Firstly, she loves the 3ft Toronto guest bed, which we purchased from Bed SOS. She says the mattress (also from Bed SOS) is very comfy – it’s like a ‘bouncy castle’ according to Jess.

Jess loves the Cotswold three drawer bedside cabinet. She loves the fact she has her own clothes in there, which in her eyes makes it ‘hers’ (basically – because she’s been staying over frequently – Kelly and I have told her its her bedroom!). She manages to open the drawers with ease, and doesn’t struggle to close them. The drawers are not on metal runners, the whole of the drawers are constructed from solid wood and the drawers sit/ slide on a wooden piece.

Jess doesn’t like the fact that her Lego box doesn’t fit next to the bed anymore (due to the Cotswold bedside cabinet being there instead).

With regards to the Birlea Cotswold 4+2 drawer chest, at first Jess complained that it was too high! We explained that the only reason the chest of drawers seemed too high was because she was laid in the bed looking at them. Once she stood next to the drawers she realised that they were a perfect size. Jess now loves the drawers, and has her books and Bratz doll safe in the very bottom drawer. Again, the Cotswold chest of drawers is constructed in the same way as the bedside cabinet. Jess manages to open the drawers easily, and also closes them without struggle. Jess loves the two small drawers located at the very top, Jess claims that these are ‘cute!’.

Jess doesn’t like the fact that her Cotswold white chest of drawers does not have an LCD TV sat on it – so at present she can’t watch TV in bed!

We’ve promised Jess that a brand new television will be purchased in the very near future to accommodate her room.

Bed SOS: now that’s one way to rescue a guest room!

With our guest room furniture finally here Kelly and I began the process of erecting it – which suprisingly took no time at all!

The Birlea Toronto bed was, once again, purchased from Bed SOS on Wednesday with free next day delivery! We chose this white wooden bed as it looks beautiful against the wall paint, and personally we both love white wooden furniture.
The white bedside cabinet and matching 4+2 drawer chest, part of the Birlea Cotswold range, was also purchased from Bed SOS with next day delivery – I love this company, dedicated to meeting their customers needs!
With regards to the mattresses, we obviously needed two and to be honest we were not wanting to pay a lot of money for mattresses which will only occasionally be getting used.  In the end we opted for two 3ft Deluxe mattresses from Bed SOS.  I find it amazing just how quickly a bedroom can come together!

Divan Beds: Molly or not!?

Ok, so I know its been a while since I last blogged, I mean it has been Easter after all. Anyways, today I waited in for our bed to be delivered from Northgate Bedding Centre. The guys came and wasted no time in getting the fully wrapped Highgate Divan bed base into the bedroom. We decided to purchase a bed from Northgate Bedding Centre (aka http://www.mrmattress.co.uk) because, to be honest, I had a metal bed frame from there in the past and I never once had a problem with it whatsoever, despite it being dismantled 12 times for reallocation into the numerous houses I have lived in.

Anyways, trucking on… The bed base itself is in a mink chenille fabric (which is the finish we chose in store after seeing various samples), and I have to say it looks fantastic on the carpet. I’m not really one for divan bed bases as, previously stated, I often tend to think they are rather molly! This beauty however is far from ‘mollified’, it features four deep drawers which are perfect for storing my Kylie Minogue bed linen, should I ever get round to purchasing such bedding from Seymours – until then, my Wilko’s king size pin tuck bedding is now neatly stored away. The bed base itself seems extremely sturdy, perfect for someone like me who is in the same weight category as Mike Tyson, and the over all quality of the bed is exceptional. The Premium 2000 memory foam mattress, which was purchased with my old bed from Bed SOS, feels brand new – possibly because the new bed base is not slatted.

All in all, I have to admit that I am impressed with the level of service, not only in the Northgate Bedding Centre store, but the professionalism of the delivery men who were extremely well presented, friendly and polite. I dare say I’ll be sleeping well tonight, only thing I’m lacking now is that desirable 5ft cream leather headboard – all in good time.

Bedding in the bag, next stop bed base!

After finding numerous ‘cheaper options’ for bedding, I am now in the process of deciding on which bed to purchase.  The bed will most definitely need to be king size, to accommodate our memory foam mattress,  and have ample storage space.

Our previous bed, the Houston from Bed SOS, was admirable with its luxurious black faux leather finish and four storage drawers.  Obviously, with the change in colour scheme we have had no other option but to shop for a brand new bed.  Kelly has decided on a divan base, not my ideal choice, but i’ll get over it.

The thing which gets me with divan beds is that you immediately think ‘molly floral’ designs, but these days there are some gorgeous divan beds, I was most impressed.  I love the idea of deep storage space and a choice of fabric finish – I’m thinking of a kind of mink chenille finish, as this will sit lovely with the carpet, and it’s bound to look beautiful once the bedding, cushions and throws are arranged specifically to suit.  I think a visit to Northgate Bedding Centre over the weekend is in order to see such a bed in the flesh.
